Maynard, a beloved neighborhood businessman is mistaken for its legendary Bigfoot through town in a gorilla costume during an inebriated romp. The sightings put off also a windfall of tourism dollars and a worldwide Bigfoot media spectacle for a simple American town hit by hard times. After Brock Masterson, reality TV's"Dragon Hunter," arrives to search the monster, Maynard agonizes over whether to come clean, ruining the rebirth of the cherished town, or perpetuate the accidental hoax.
